    • Expanding the Tribe

Since we launched the GRWT several years ago, we’ve had one group of eight members (and thus, closed to new people). Although that group has taken advantage of this forum, there hasn’t been significant interest in other groups signing up.

Today we did a bit of revision of the infrastructure. We launched a new blog and a new Discord server, and socialized them both with the National Novel Writing Month crowd.

      More to come!

    • On Writing Groups and Peer Critiquing

For your benefit, in case you haven’t seen it yet, I’m sharing the PDF of Chapter 5 of my book, The Diction Dude Essential Guide to Getting Started as a Professional Writer.

This chapter includes an essay about writing groups, and it offers advice for both critiquing and being critiqued.

It’s a good primer into the “how and why” of how GRWT operates.

    • RE: The Dining Extravaganza

I’m thinking we should begin this journey in mid-June. From what I gather from talking to folks, everyone who intends to be vaccinated will have done so by mid-May, so by mid-June, everyone should be at peak protection and it’s likely (I hope?) that in-person dining will be a more viable option. I know a few places on the list where we could go, early up.

If you’re interested in participating in these meal rounds, please let me know your preferred availability – e.g., good/bad nights or weekends.

Optionally, for Saturday excursions, we could also combine these with some sort of outdoor outing, like a hike or a kayak trip.

    • RE: Friendly Short Story Challenge #7- Unexpected Roommate

      Two things.

      1. Well, @dmzoltwrites – that was a lovely story. I felt the struggle. I can sympathize with struggling not to wake Murphy d’Cat when I get up to pee at 2 a.m. and he’s draped over my legs atop the comforter.

      2. Well, @allihawk – GAME. ON.

@dlrosa-jessica I like this. It hits home; I’ve written a story called “The Stump” that speaks to a particular dead tree at my grandparents’ former home. Well done.
